Wednesday, February 28th, 2007Here's the PAN'S LABYRINTH review that I promised you. Next Up: David Fincher's historical serial killer thriller Zodiac, followed by Zack Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller and Lynne Varley's classic graphic novel 300.-Collin Out. Wednesday, February 14th, 2007Here's yet another review, this time for The Pang Brother's western theatrical debut THE MESSENGERS, produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures. It is about a troubled girl on an even-more troubled haunted farm. It is about family dynamics, and how hard it can be to be a teenage girl when your parents feel like they can no longer trust you. It is about an hour and a half long. Check out the review to see if it is worth your time.-Collin Out. Saturday, January 20th, 2007Another new review is up, this time for Alfonso Cuaron's brilliant dystopian masterpiece CHILDREN OF MEN. Though it is not a horror movie in the purest sense of the world, it tells the sad tale of humanity dying off because no more children can be born, only 20 years from now. And if that isn't horrific enough to earn it a place in these unhallowed halls, I don't know what is.-Collin Out. Friday, December 29th, 2006I just thought you all might like to know that Zack Snyder, the director responsible for the incredible DAWN OF THE DEAD remake, is directing the movie adaptation of Frank Miller's 300. Frank Miller, as you should know, was the creator of the SIN CITY and THE DARK NIGHT RETURNS comic series, as well as being co-director with Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino of the movie version of SIN CITY. 300 was his 1998 comic mini-series about the battle of Thermopylae and the 300 Spartan soldiers who fought there to hold off the entire Persian army in 480 B.C. It isn't exactly horror, but a) Zack Snyder did a great job with the DoD remake, and b) this is by Frank Miller, who's SIN CITY definately fit into the "Dark Entertainment" subheading, and often forayed into the horrific. Regardless, if you are interested, the trailer can be found here, should you be interested in checking it out.-Collin Out. Friday, December 15th, 2006I've put up a review for the original 1974 version of BLACK CHRISTMAS. This is definately worth a look.-Collin Out. Friday, December 8th, 2006I figured we'd continue with our DESCENT theme (see the review for the unrelated novel THE DESCENT by Jeff Long), with review for the phenomenal British hot-chicks-dying-in-caves movie THE DESCENT. Damn fine stuff, if I do say so my self. And I do.-Collin Out. Friday, December 8th, 2006As you can see, the Movie Section is now up and running. Rock the Kazbah.-Collin Out.
